Aspes has been founded in 1989 as a spin-off company by four former university researchers from ETH Zurich, the Swiss Federal Technical University of Zurich. Each of the founders accumulated more than ten years experience in kinetic energy storage or related techniques.
The main purpose of the company is the development of flywheels for energy storage and high speed composite rotors for various applications. Realized applications have been in the field of uninterrupted power supply (UPS), an apparatus for manufacturing medicals, systems to improve grid power quality and in transportation.
Aspes has developed a special winding process for pre-stressing the fibers during the manufacturing process of a composite rotor which results in a better performance of the rotor and increases the specific energy content. Special attention has been given to a benign failure behavior of the composite rotor.
ASPES disposes of testing facilities of fast spinning rotors and systems.
Available expertise lies
in the field of safety aspects, bearing concepts, electrical machines and
controls and in the design of integrated systems.
